blog post soundtrack: Happiness by Jónsi
I stopped consuming meat at age eleven, and at the age of twenty-four after being vegetarian/vegan for over ten years, I began to incorporate meat, eggs, and dairy into my diet again. The decision to work on family farms with small livestock operations changed my life. When living alongside livestock, and seeing how natural, sustainable and nutritious the lifestyle was, things began to make sense. I felt lied to and realized the illusory propaganda I was fooled by for so long and quickly left this lifestyle behind, for the better.
Two of the most noticeable changes seen after a year of this diet and lifestyle change are my chronic eczema symptoms reduced to almost none. Second being the natural transition into a more fulfilling and holistic life alongside a major shift in psyche and worldview. I even moved to the mountains of California with my current partner to raise livestock off grid only 5 months after making the shift away from veganism.
After eight months, six goats, three dogs, four lambs and a flock of meat hens and rabbits, we knew this lifestyle was something greater than just health but a strong tether linking us to the alchemical universe we are a part of. I have been inspired to create a website, a place where I can share the multi-faceted aspects of what I am called to share with others, in a time where it feels very needed.
Here you will be able to learn and follow along with my own personal journey of building a farm operation from nothing, but a small Amish farmhouse tucked away in rural northeastern New York state.
I will share stories and recourses that have inspired and guided me personally in my own experience. Through regenerative practices, I challenge myself to dig deep and find the root of why I am here, and why I am called to learn regenerative and traditional folk practices.
I am learning so much every day and I know I do not journey alone. My goal is to encourage you to come along, so we can take this journey together. I hope for this to be more than just a site, but a mode of connection to our deep lineage and to something real.
In times where it feels our species has amnesia, I feel a pull from the heart to create, to commune, to reconstitute, to remember, to revive and to bring into existence again something that is intuitive within. Let’s normalize the integral connection to the stewardship of our land, our relationships, our community, our creatures and ourselves. We all share a natural born connection to our own deep lineage of stewardship within us; to be fulfilled within our lifetime and we can’t do it alone.
So, I conclude and ask, what are you being called to regenerate?
Thank you for reading.
Warmly,
Monique
